Hampton Doors Treatment & Maintenance

Follow the instructions for the treatment of the doors as applicable for you as laid out below. We recommend to ask your painter or paint supplier to advise you on the products to use.

  • Make sure the relative air humidity where the door is stored is not higher or lower as normal,otherwise don’t store it there till the air humidity is stabilized (normal) .
  • For the doors that are factory primed, ground paint only has to be applied to untreated areas, for example caused by fitting the door .

External / Internal doors Merbau or Meranti lacquered:

Preparations before fitting:

  • Clean the door and sand it slightly in the direction of the wood grain.
  • Any uneven or damaged area's can be filled with a wood filler for example Polyfilla woodflex exterior in the same wood color.
  • Paint the door with 3 to 4 layers of ground lacquer, till a total dry layer thickness of 110 µm is achieved if not factory primed (also lock holes etc.) on all 6 sides.

Finish painting after fitting:

  • Within 8 days after mounting finish the paintwork:
  • Sand the whole door lightly.
  • Finish painting the door in 2 layers with Gloss or Satin finishing lacquer on all 6 sides, we recommend the use of Sikkens Cetol Supernatural or Sikkens Cetol BLX-Pro.

External doors Merbau or Meranti painted:

Preparations before fitting:

  • Clean the door and sand it slightly.
  • Paint the door with 3 to 4 layers of ground paint, until a total dry layer thickness of 110 µm is achieved if not factory primed (also lock holes etc.) on all 6 sides.

Finish painting after fitting:

  • Within 8 days after mounting finish the paintwork:
  • Sand the whole door.
  • any uneven or damaged area's can be filled for example with: Polyfilla woodflex exterior.
  • Paint the door with a ground layer on all 6 sides (also lock cuttings and glass beads).
  • Finish painting the door in 1 or 2 layers with Gloss or Satin finishing paint on all 6 sides.

Internal doors painted:

Preparations before fitting:

  • Clean the door and sand it.
  • any uneven or damaged area's can be filled for example with: Timbernate waterbased woodfiller.
  • Paint the door with 2 to 3 layers of ground paint, until a total dry layer thickness of 80 µm is achieved if not factory primed (also lock holes etc.).
  • Make sure the relative air humidity where the door is mounted is normal, otherwise wait till the air humidity is stabilized (normal).

Finish painting after fitting:

  • Within 8 days after mounting finish the paintwork:
  • Sand the whole door lightly.
  • Finish painting the door in 1 or 2 layers with Gloss or Satin finishing paint on all 6 sides.

Maintenance external doors:

  • Check the paintwork annually and if there is any damage, paint / lacquer those to the original layer thickness.
  • Doors painted in a light color, repaint them after 3 years.
  • Doors painted in dark colors or lacquered, repaint them after 2 years.

Maintenance internal doors:

  • Check the paintwork annually and if there are damages, paint them to the original layer thickness.

Repainting / lacquering doors:

  • Remove the layers that are not good any more, the layers that are correct can be cleaned and lightly sanded.
  • When there is wood visible, ground paint the wood with a minimum of 2 layers.
  • Finish painting the door in 1 or 2 layers with Gloss or Satin finishing paint on all 6 sides.

Warranty:

The doors are supplied with 6 years factory warranty, as long as the customer has met the description of processing.

Excluded of warranty, not responsible for and / or not accepted as being faulty:

  • Any errors or damage that could have been noticed at the delivery of the door or incurred during unloading.
  • Damages incurred by not using, treating or fitting the door properly.
  • The so called “bleeding” of doors.
  • Color or structure differences of solid wooden doors have to be considered as normal.
  • Translucent primer has a brown color pigment in it (is not clear), can turn the wood darker as expected.
  • The inside of the door looking different from the outside, drawing is available on request before production.
  • Small dents or cracks.
  • Doors painted in dark colors can have/get small cracks of drying.
  • The use of plywood as an inside finish in some door models.
  • Warping or bending of the door if not more than 8mm.
  • Doors with a size higher as 2400mm and/or wider as 1050mm are not covered for warping or bending.
  • If more than 10mm is sawed, planed or sanded of any side of the door.
  • If a heating source is mounted within 100cm of the door.
  • If the humidity content of the door is over 16%.
  • If the door has not been maintained properly.
  • small area's with a wood filler for smooth finishing or repairs on doors that will be painted / lacquered.
  • Water damage because there is not enough sealant / paint at the glass/door connection.
  • Internal doors when mounted externally.
  • Cracking and/or bending of solid wooden panels in external doors if the door is exposed to direct sun light.
  • Cost occurring from replacing / re-fitting and or re-painting / re-lacquering of the door if the door is repaired or replaced under warranty
  • Any damage or bending of a door when paintwork is not properly protecting it (on all 6 sides as well as lock holes, hinge cuttings, etc.).
